Jabar Gaffney sets career high in receiving yards

Redskins wide receiver Jabar Gaffney had six catches for 77 yards and a spectacular one-handed grab on a four-yard touchdown reception Saturday in a 33-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, giving him a new career high in receiving yardage.

Gaffney, a 10-year veteran out of Florida in his first season with Washington, now has 919 receiving yards, surpassing the 875 he had a year ago with Denver.

“I’ll look at that after it’s over,” Gaffney said. “Right now, I’d just like to win.”

The touchdown pass Gaffney caught from Rex Grossman in the third quarter – which he snared by extending his right arm to make a one-handed catch with defender Benny Sapp draped over him– was his fifth scoring catch of the season. That ties his previous career high, set in 2007 with the New England Patriots, who went 16-0 that season.

“It was a hell of a catch,” said Grossman, who was also Gaffney’s quarterback at Florida. “I tried to put it in a spot where only he could get it, and he was able to do it.”

Grossman’s other touchdown pass on the day went to Donte Stallworth, who was also on that 2007 New England team with Gaffney. Stallworth caught five balls Saturday against Minnesota, giving him 21 receptions on the season – the most since he had 46 catches in 2007.
