Kelly, Stitser, Chappell cut, Mike Shanahan says

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said the team cut wide receiver Malcolm Kelly Tuesday and called it “a shame” that the wideout never was able to get healthy. Shanahan said “we waived him injured.”

Shanahan confirmed that the team cut quarterback Ben Chappell and kicker Clint Stitser. The coach said the Redskins also released guard Xavier Fulton and linebacker Eric McBride.

The team put defensive lineman Jarvis Jenkins on injured reserve, Shanahan said.

Shanahan praised kicker Graham Gano’s consistency through the preseason.

Shanahan declined to say which quarterback will start on Thursday.

Kick/punt returner Brandon Banks didn’t have any setbacks to his left knee after practicing for two straight days.
