London Fletcher has big numbers in loss

Linebacker London Fletcher was limited by injury in practice all week and his streak of consecutive games played appeared to be in jeopardy. But Fletcher was on the field for his 215th straight game and had no problem making his presence known Sunday against the Bills.

Fletcher finished with a game-high 20 tackles, nearly three times more than any teammate. Twelve of those were unassisted. He also was credited with half a sack, two quarterback hits and a key interception that ended a likely Bills’ scoring drive.

Fletcher, who ended last week’s loss at Carolina on the bench with a tweaked hamstring, wasn’t basking in any individual exploits at game’s end Sunday.

“We lost the game,” he said, “so any time you lose, you’re not happy.”

Fletcher is one of the team’s captains and one of its unquestioned leaders. He knows what Sunday’s 23-0 loss means, but he’s hopeful the Redskins will rebound.

“I think we can bounce back from it, but it’s going to take effort by everybody,” he said. “Everybody has to play better. Any time you lose ballgames, you look within to see what you can do better to help the team win.”
