For a second straight season, linebacker/special teams player Lorenzo Alexander has been picked as the Washington Redskins’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee.
The award recognizes players for work in their communities as well as excellence on the playing field. One representative from each of the 32 teams wins the award and receives a $1,000 donation to his charity. Three finalists receive an additional $5,000 and will attend the Super Bowl, where the winner will be announced before the game. The winner will receive a $25,000 donation to the organization of his choice.
Alexander received the recognition for his charity, the Lorenzo Alexander A.C.E.S (Accountability, Community, Education, Sports) foundation, which he started in 2008.
The foundation offers tutoring for young people and runs college prep and life skills. Alexander is active in both the D.C. area and his native Oakland area.
