NFL draft guru Mike Mayock predicts the Washington Redskins will select Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara with the 10th overall pick.
Mayock argues that Amukamara fills a definite need for the Redskins.
“Do the Redskins think about a quarterback here? Maybe,” Mayock writes. “But cornerbacks Carlos Rogers and Phillip Buchanon are both set to be free agents. If I’m Mike Shanahan, I look at Amukamara as one of the most gifted players in the draft and an immediate help.”
Mayock predicts the first nine picks of the draft will go accordingly:
1.Carolina Panthers – QB Cam Newton.
2.Denver Broncos – LB Von Miller.
3.Buffalo Bills – DT Marcell Dareus.
4.Cincinnati Bengals – WR A.J. Green.
5.Arizona Cardinals – CB Patrick Peterson.
6.Cleveland Browns – WR Julio Jones.
7.San Francisco 49ers – QB Blaine Gabbert.
8.Tennessee Titans – DT Nick Fairley.
9.Dallas Cowboys – OT Tyron Smith.
Late in the draft, Mayock picks a team to trade with New England to take Jake Locker with the 28th pick. He also predicts a team will trade into Green Bay’s spot at 32nd overall to draft Andy Dalton. He doesn’t say which team that will be, but if the Redskins are to trade down, a team like New England, which has the 17th and 28th picks of the draft, would be a prime candidate for a trade partner. Mayock’s full mock draft can be seen here:
ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay both have Washington taking J.J. Watt out of Wisconsin, and another top-notch mock draft, done every year by Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News, has Washington taking Alabama receiver Julio Jones.
