Niles Paul believes injured big toe will be fine

Rookie wide receiver Niles Paul left Sunday’s loss with a toe injury and wore an air cast on his foot as he headed home from the game, but said Monday that he believes he will be fine.

Paul, who remained hobbled Monday morning, said he injured the big toe on his left foot as he was tackled on a 15-yard kickoff return late in the game. X-rays showed that there is no break.

“On the return, I cut it up and the dude jumped on my back and it went a weird direction and was real painful,” said Paul, whom Washington drafted in the fifth round out of Nebraska. “I would’ve been a waste of space out there.”

Paul, who walked gingerly around the locker room while barefooted Monday morning, said he hoped to be able to return to action soon. The Redskins don’t practice again until Wednesday.
