Quick hits: John Beck’s mobility helped tilt QB decision in his favor, Shanahan says.

Coach Mike Shanahan said he will start John Beck Sunday because the quarterback did a good job producing nine first downs and a 75 yard touchdown drive without three starters on the field. Shanahn also was impressed with his practice play.

Shanahan called his decision difficult and said that he still believes in both quarterbacks.

Shanahan said he thinks Beck’s mobility, among other factors, played a part in his decision.

Shanahan said he told Rex Grossman that “to keep that position, to be the quarterback in the National Football League, you’ve got to eliminate those mistakes. You can’t turn the football over.”

Shanahan said all of his players need to play better to help Beck succeed.

Shanahan said Chris Cooley’s finger surgery went well but his status for a return has yet to be determined.

Anthony Armstrong, Tim Hightower and Phillip Buchanon all practiced fully today.

Receiver Santana Moss said “we have two quarterbacks that we believe in ... Coach made his decision and we’re gonna roll with it. ... Now it’s John’s shot and we’re gonna go with it.”
