Quick hits: Redskins coach Mike Shanahan gives Bowen, Kerrigan Fletcher a day off; Balmer is missing

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer was absent for practice today, and that he didn’t know why.

Shanahan gave defensive end Stephen Bowen and linebackers Ryan Kerrigan and London Fletcher the day off. All three watched practice.

Shanahan said Jammal Brown’s doctor recommended the tackle take some anti-inflammatory medication. Brown will come back to Redskins Park, receive treatment and “try to get into football shape,” for the season, Shanahan said.

The coach said Brown will remain on the physically unable to perform list, and that he doesn’t know how long it will take for Brown to get back on the field.

Shanahan said Kirk Cousins does an impersonation of him that is “too good,” and “kind of embarrassing,” and then laughed.
