Quick hits: Roy Helu, Jammal Brown and Stephen Bowen are day to day

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said running back Roy Helu (knee, toe) was limited in practice on Wednesday as were right tackle Jammal Brown (groin), fullback Mike Sellers (elbow) and defensive end Stephen Bowen (knee).

Helu, Brown and Bowen are “day-to-day,” Shanahan said. The coach said Sellers participated almost fully in practice and likely will play Saturday.

Shanahan said strength coach Ray Wright spoke to suspended players Fred Davis and Trent Williams. Both will be permitted to come to the park for conditioning work, but won’t be allowed in meetings or other football-related activities, Shanahan said.

Running back Tim Hightower came to Redskins Park today and is ahead of schedule on his rehabilitation from season-ending ACL surgery.

Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said that despite a number of trick plays the last two games, he doesn’t feel like he’s become more aggressive as a play-caller. Shanahan said the goal is to keep defenses off-balance in a variety of ways.

Shanahan joked that on an intercepted flea-flicker pass that was the first play of Sunday’s game, “Rex threw it 60 yards and needed to throw it 80, and I’m the one who can throw it 80.”

Shanahan said of Grossman, “he’s done a decent job,” but added “He’s had way too many turnovers. He’s got to get those down.”
