Redskins lose nose tackle Chris Neild for the season to torn ACL

Backup nose tackle Chris Neild +is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, coach Mike Shanahan said Tuesday afternoon.

Neild injured his knee Monday and underwent an MRI exam.

The second-year man from West Virginia was battling for a roster spot with Chris Baker, who spent all but a few hours of last season on the practice squad.

After recording two sacks and a forced fumble in the opening game last season, Neild had no sacks the rest of the way. He appeared in all 16 games and had 10 tackles.
