Redskins release RB James Davis

The Redskins have formally released running back James Davis, who left the team last week. The Redskins had initially placed Davis, a third-year back out of Clemson, on the reserve/left squad list last week but now have fully parted ways.

Unhappy with his playing time, Davis left the team in the middle of the night last Sunday, and Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said he thought Davis was prepared to retire.

But by releasing him, Davis would now be free to sign with any team, if he clears waivers, and resume his career.
