Redskins sign two more draft picks

The Washington Redskins signed two more draft picks Sunday, when running back Alfred Morris and tackle Tom Compton both inked contracts.

Both players were drafted in the sixth round--Morris with the 173rd pick out of Florida Atlantic and Compton with the 193rd pick out of South Dakota.

They are the fourth and fifth of Washington’s nine draft picks to sign contracts. On Friday, the team signed seventh-round draft picks Richard Crawford and Jordan Bernstine – both defensive backs. And on Saturday, the Redskins signed guard Adam Gettis – their fifth-round pick.

The team also waived rookie nose tackle Vaughn Meatoga and receiver Kelvin Bolden Sunday. Both were signed last week as undrafted free agents.

The Redskins also signed wide receivers Brian Hernandez and Samuel Kirkland, offensive lineman Nick Martinez, tight end Beau Reliford and defensive lineman Delvin Johnson to contracts. Those five took part in the Redskins’ rookie minicamp as tryout invitees and made impressions on Washington’s coaches.

“We try to get three, four or five players that will be part of our football team – be part of our 90,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. “I thought the minicamp went exceptionally well.”
