Right guard Chris Chester’s ankle remains sore, but he hasn’t been ruled out for Thursday’s game.

Shanahan said Evan Royster will start at running back Thursday. Roy Helu will rotate in and out. Shanahan said he hopes Hightower will be ready to play by the third preseason game.

Kicker Graham Gano will start Thursday, but Neil Rackers will rotate in with him. Shanahan said wide receiver Josh Morgan (hamstring) will play Thursday as long as he doesn’t suffer a setback Wednesday.

Tight end Chris Cooley received a day of rest Tuesday.

Shanahan said Jammal Brown continues to receive treatment at Redskins Park, but that his hip remains sore, and he is still on the physically unable to perform list.

The Redskins held Family Day Monday. Wives, girlfriends and children of players and coaches attended practice and the children enjoyed water slides.
