Rex Grossman to start against Miami Dolphins

The Washington Redskins will start Rex Grossman as quarterback today against the Miami Dolphins, a person with knowledge of the situation has confirmed.

The move comes exactly a week after Coach Mike Shanahan said following Washington’s loss to San Francisco that John Beck would remain the starter.

But as The Post reported on Friday night, Grossman split first-team snaps with Beck, who had struggled in his three games as starting quarterback. Washington’s offense had managed only 11 points a game with Beck at the helm.

Grossman opened the season as the starter but threw nine interceptions in five games and got the hook during a four-interception performance against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
