Robert Griffin III clocks fastest 40-yard dash by quarterback at combine (Updated)

Update, 3:20 p.m.: Griffin's official time, according to NFL Network, was 4.41 seconds. That stands as the fastest time for a quarterback at the combine this week and goes down as the third-fastest by a quarterback since 2000.

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III continues to impress at the NFL Scouting Combine, clocking an unofficial 40-yard dash time of 4.38 seconds Sunday morning at Lucas Oil Stadium.

That time marks a Combine record for quarterbacks. Griffin clocked a 4.41 second dash in his first attempt, and then came back and did even better in his second attempt.

So far, Griffin’s time ranks fifth fastest of any position at this year’s combine.

Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill clocked a time of 4.30 seconds, Miami wideout Travis Benjamin ran a 4.32 and N.C. State’s T.J. Graham, also a receiver, ran a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash. Virginia Tech receiver Danny Coale ran a 4.40.

Griffin will not take part in the throwing drills, electing instead to wait until his Pro Day next month to do so.
