Ryan Kerrigan increases team-leading sack tally

Washington Redskins rookie outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan added to his team lead in sacks and ended a two-game drought by dropping Giants quarterback Eli Manning for a 13-yard loss in the fourth quarter of his team’s 23-10 victory Sunday.

Washington’s first-round pick out of Purdue, the 6-foot-4, 267-pound Kerrigan now leads the Redskins with 7.5 sacks. He sack against the Giants came with New York facing fourth-and-goal from the 12-yard line and down 23-3.

“I haven’t had one in a couple games so I was [hungry] for one,” said Kerrigan, who was drafted 16th overall. “To be able to get that in a situation like I did was pretty cool.”

It marked another memorable performance against the Giants for Kerrigan. In the season opener, he recorded an interception and returned it for a touchdown.

Kerrigan’s sack on Sunday was one of three on the day for the Redskins.

Defensive end Stephen Bowen and fellow outside linebacker Brian Orakpo recorded the others. Orakpo ranks second on the team with seven sacks, and Bowen now ranks third on the team with six.
