Washington Redskins rookie linebacker Ryan Kerrigan again is a nominee for the Pepsi NFL rookie of the week, following his strong outing against the St. Louis Rams. Meanwhile, running back Ryan Torain is a candidate for the FedEx Ground player of the week.
Kerrigan, who was nominated for the award in Week 1 and last week took home defensive rookie of the month honors, recorded six tackles, a sack and a forced fumble against the Rams Sunday.
Fans can vote for Kerrigan online from now until Friday afternoon. His competitors are San Diego cornerback Marcus Gilchrist (six tackles, interception, two passes deflected), Cincinnati wideout A.J. Green (four catches, 118 yards), Atlanta receiver Julio Jones (11 catches, 127 yards) and Carolina’s Cam Newton (374 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception, 35 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns).
Torain earned recognition after his 19-carry, 135-yard, one-touchdown outing against the Rams. Fans can vote for Torain online as well.
The running back’s competitors for the FedEx Ground player of the week are Chicago’s Matt Forte (25 carries, 205 yards, TD) and Houston’s Arian Foster (30 carries, 155 yards, TD).
The winner of each award will be announced on NFL Total Access Friday night.
