The team informed center Erik Cook on Thursday night that he is being released, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed.
Cook spent the past two seasons with the Redskins, first as a member of the practice squad for all but one week in 2010 before being promoted to the 53-man roster, then all of last season on the official roster.
Cook started two games at center last season and appeared in four other games.
Cook’s release was first reported by the ESPN 980 radio.
The Redskins will continue informing players of their fates and then must turn in their official list of cuts by Friday night. Over the weekend they will sign eight players to their practice squad.
