Leonard Hankerson could have bigger role vs. Bengals

Leonard Hankerson could have a significant role at wide receiver for the Washington Redskins in Sunday’s home opener at FedEx Field against the Cincinnati Bengals, with Pierre Garcon likely to be sidelined by a foot injury.

Hankerson had a 68-yard touchdown catch in last Sunday’s loss at St. Louis and could be the top candidate to start at the wideout spot opposite Josh Morgan.

Aldrick Robinson started last weekend but failed to hold on to a deep pass by rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III at a pivotal moment in the defeat to the Rams.

The Redskins have listed Garcon as doubtful to play Sunday. He would be missing his second straight game.

Garcon suffered the injury on his 88-yard touchdown catch during the Redskins’ season-opening triumph at New Orleans. Garcon remained unable to participate in full team drills in Friday’s practice and Coach Mike Shanahan said afterward that Garcon is unlikely to play against the Bengals.
