Redskins running back Alfred Morris has been nominated for Pepsi Max NFL rookie of the week following another strong performance on Sunday.

Morris recorded his third 100-yard game, rushing for a career-high 120 yards on 22 carries in a 27-24 loss to the New York Giants. Morris now has 658 rushing yards through seven games, and ranks one yard shy of Houston’s Arian Foster for the league lead. Morris also has five rushing touchdowns.

Morris is on pace to rush for 1,504 yards and 11 touchdowns.

It’s the first time that Morris — a sixth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic University — has been nominated for rookie of the week.

The other nominees:

  • New England linebacker Dont’a Hightower, who recorded seven tackles and a sack in a 29-26 overtime win over the Jets.
  • Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck, who completed 16 of 29 passes for 186 yards and rushed for two touchdowns in a 17-13 win over Cleveland.
  • Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries in a 35-28 loss to New Orleans.
  • Minnesota safety Harrison Smith, who recorded five tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown in a 21-14 win over Arizona.

The winner of the honor is determined by fan votes and will be announced on Friday.

Quarterback Robert Griffin III has been nominated for rookie of the week three of the six previous weeks of the season and has won it each time.
