The surgery will be done by renowned foot specialist Robert Anderson. Anderson is the same surgeon who repaired the torn Achilles’ tendon of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs this past spring. Suggs had his surgery on May 8, and returned to the field Sunday to record four tackles and a sack in Baltimore’s loss to the Houston Texans. Anderson also repaired the broken ankle of New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter on Saturday.
Davis suffered the injury on the first offensive series of Washington’s 27-24 loss to the New York Giants. He hadn’t previously had any problems with his foot. Earlier last week, Davis received treatment for a knee injury, but didn’t miss any practice time.
Former Redskins safety LaRon Landry saw Anderson multiple times about his problematic Achilles’ tendon, and Anderson recommended surgery, but Landry opted for non-surgical procedures instead.
Davis is expected to require six months to recover, although Suggs made his comeback in five months.
