Meriweather a ‘long shot’ to play Sunday; Garcon out again

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said safety Brandon Meriweather, who continues to be plagued by a knee injury, practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday, but is a “long shot” to play this week.

Shanahan said that receiver Pierre Garcon(toe) did not practice and won’t try to play until after the bye.

Linebacker Perry Riley was limited by the hamstring injury he suffered on Sunday.  But
cornerbacks Josh Wilson (shoulder) and David Jones (Achilles’ tendon) practiced fully, Shanahan said.

Shanahan said the team hasn’t heard anything yet from the NFL on a penalty for  cornerback DeAngelo Hall for his outburst at an official in Sunday’s am the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Shanahan said of the upcoming game Sunday against the Carolina Panthers: “Our backs are against the wall.” He stressed the importance of playing well and winning going into the bye.

Shanahan said London Fletcher went through practice well today despite battling a hamstring injury and balance issues last week.

Shanahan said Aldrick Robinson is getting back into the mix on offense to help boost the team’s speed. Shanahan said he was pleased with Robinson’s play against Pittsburgh.
