The Redskins on Friday activated cornerback Cedric Griffin, who is eligible to return after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

The move is the most significant indication that Washington plans to move Griffin back into the secondary, where he was frequently used as part of a three-cornerback look.

To make room for Griffin on the active roster, the Redskins placed cornerback D.J. Johnson on injured reserve with a sprained ankle.
