The Redskins announced Wednesday that they had officially added former San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith to their front office.

The team announced that Smith will serve as a “senior executive” for the Redskins.

The Post and other media reported last month that the Redskins had hired Smith to the front office as an adviser. Smith, who was fired by the Chargers at the end of last season, was evaluating talent with Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen, according to one person familiar with the situation.

Smith has a long history with Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen that dates back to their time together in the defunct U.S. Football League. Smith’s son Kyle is a Redskins’ scout.
