Redskins sign 12 college free agents [updated]

The Washington Redskins announced the names of 12 undrafted free agents that they have signed.

Some of the signings were reported this week by their agents, but a handful of others had yet to be confirmed.

In addition to Utah center Tevita Stevens, Florida tackle Xavier Nixon, UAB inside linebacker Marvin Burdett and wide receivers Jason Thompson of New Haven and U-Conn.’s Nick Williams, which were reported earlier this week, the team has signed Troy wide receiver Chip Reeves, Troy offensive lineman Kyle Wilborn, Houston offensive lineman Jacolby Ashworth, Nebraska linebacker William Compton, Texas Christian wide receiver Skye Dawson, Appalachian State linebacker Jeremy Kimbrough and Georgia state tight end Emmanuel Ogbuehi.

Ashworth is a 6-3, 300-pound guard, who earned first-team All-Conference USA honors. He started 10 games at guard after playing left tackle for the first three years of his college career.

William Compton is a 6-1, 230-pound inside linebacker who recorded a team-high 98 tackles and three sacks. He also recovered three fumbles and earned second-team All-Big Ten honors.

Dawson is a 5-9, 160-pound receiver who clocked a 4.39 40-yard dash at his pro day. He ranked top five in his conference in punt returns (9.4 yard average) and kickoff returns (23.1).

Kimbrough is a 5-9, 235-pound inside linebacker who led his conference with 128 tackles this season. He also worked out as a fullback for teams at the combine.

Ogbuehi is a 6-2, 244-pound tight end/fullback who recorded 25 catches for 282 yards and three touchdowns.

Reeves is a 5-11, 176-pound receiver/kick returner who clocked a 4.53 40-yard dash. He led the Sun Belt Conference and ranked 28th in the nation averaging 87.5 receiving yards a game.

Wilborn is a 6-3, 296-pound center, who earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors after anchoring a line that yielded just 1.25 sacks a game in 42.4 pass attempts.

These 12 players and the seven drafted rookies are not the only players coming to rookie camp this weekend. The team has yet to release the list of unsigned free agent rookies that will be attending the camp as tryout players, but the agents of McNeese State cornerback Seth Thomas, Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin, Michigan guard Ricky Barnum and Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin are among those who have said their clients are attending.
