Donte Stallworth to try out with Redskins during next week’s minicamp

The Washington Redskins will have veteran wide receiver Donte Stallworth in for a tryout during next week’s three-day minicamp, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

Players report for physicals next Monday, and the team is scheduled to practice on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Stallworth, 32, played in 11 games for the Redskins in 2011, recording 22 catches for 309 yards and two touchdowns. He played in one game for the Patriots last season.

The 10-year veteran in March was injured during a hot-air balloon accident. Stallworth suffered burns when the balloon he and his girlfriend rode in collided with power lines. He said in April in an interview with FoxSports.com, “In that moment, I thought my eyes would close and I’d never wake up again.”

Stallworth suffered no permanent injuries and hopes to revive his NFL career.

He tweeted on Friday, “Three months ago I almost lost my life, now I have another opportunity to play the game I love. I’m grateful to the @Redskins. I am blessed.”

An NFL.com report Thursday evening said that Stallworth had a tryout set up with the Redskins. But those details weren’t finalized until Friday morning, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

The Redskins currently are set to bring back 2012 contributors Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan, Santana Moss, Leonard Hankerson and Aldrick Robinson and the seldom-used Dez Briscoe. The team this offseason also signed undrafted free agents Skye Dawson, Chip Reeves, Lance Lewis and Nick Williams.
