Redskins waive DE Worthington and TE Peterson, add WR Henderson, K Potter

Updated, 5:38 p.m.

The Washington Redskins have given defensive end Doug Worthington and tight end DeAngelo Peterson the waived-injured designation, the team confirmed. They also announced that they have signed former New Orleans Saint Devery Henderson, making him the second wide receiver signed by the team on Wednesday. Earlier, they signed Donte Stallworth.

Worthington suffered an injury to a biceps tendon that could require surgery to repair, Coach Mike Shanahan said on Tuesday.

Peterson, meanwhile, broke a bone in one of his feet last week, the coach said.

Both are backup players that were hoping to make Washington’s roster this season.

If they go unclaimed, those players will go on injured reserve, And the Redskins would pay for their rehab.

A nine-year veteran, Henderson has recorded 245 receptions for 4,377  yards and 20 touchdowns. Washington now has 12 receivers on the roster.

Washington also signed kicker John Potter, who tried out with the team the past two days. He spent the first six weeks of the 2012 season as the Bills’ kickoff specialist, kicking off 24 times with 13 touchbacks.

The Redskins have kicker Kai Forbath on the roster, and he excelled in field goals but struggled on kickoffs, recording only 15 touchbacks in 62 attempts.
