Orakpo says contract situation will ‘work itself out’

RICHMOND — Linebacker Brian Orakpo said little Thursday about his contract situation with the Washington Redskins, declining to characterize how active negotiations on a possible extension are at this point.

“I don’t want to be bothered with it,” Orakpo said after the Redskins’ training camp got under way with a morning walk-through. “I let my agent take care of it and it’ll work itself out.”

According to a person familiar with the situation, the Redskins are intent on signing Orakpo to an extension. The two-time Pro Bowl selection is entering the final season of his current contract and would be eligible for free agency next offseason.

Orakpo said he is under no restrictions for training camp as he returns from a torn left pectoral muscle.

“I’m full go,” Orakpo said. “I told them, ‘Don’t hold me back for nothing.’ I’m not worried about cautiousness and all that other [stuff] that goes along with it. I’m 100 percent and I told them that, and they know. So I’ll be full go for every day.”
