Pashos opens camp as second-string right tackle

RICHMOND — Veteran Tony Pashos opened training camp Thursday practicing with the Washington Redskins’ second-team offense at right tackle.

It’s unclear how much of a chance he’ll be given to overtake the team’s starter at the position, Tyler Polumbus. But Pashos said Friday he’s not spending too much time worrying about that.

“It is an opportunity for me to play football for a very good team,” Pashos said after the Redskins’ morning walk-through. “That’s the way I see it. Regardless of the situations or scenarios, I’m trying to play at my best and help this team win as best I can.”

The Redskins re-signed Polumbus in free agency in the offseason but also added Pashos and Jeremy Trueblood, who practiced with the third team Thursday at right tackle. Pashos missed last season, recovering from a ruptured tendon in his foot after being released by the Cleveland Browns. He has made 70 career starts for the Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers and Browns.

Pashos said Friday that he’s feeling good physically and is making progress feeling comfortable with the Redskins’ offense.

“I think it helps the whole offseason being with the club and the program and the play book,” Pashos said. “It’s definitely a must. I can’t imagine doing it any other way.”
