Free agent linebacker Joe Mays visited the Washington Redskins at their training camp in Richmond on Saturday but did not immediately sign with the team.

It was not immediately clear Saturday night if a deal remained possible in the future.

Team officials were hopeful of signing Mays to add depth after reserve inside linebacker Keenan Robinson suffered a torn pectoral muscle during Thursday’s opening practice of camp. But the Redskins seemed prepared to offer only a relatively modest contract and could lose Mays if another team is willing to offer more money.

Mays was released by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday. He was to have a $4 million salary this season if he’d remained in Denver. He lost his starting job there last season.
