DeAngelo Hall won’t play against Titans

RICHMOND — Cornerback DeAngelo Hall said he will not play in the Washington Redskins’ opening preseason game Thursday night in Nashville against the Tennessee Titans.

Hall has resumed practicing after being sidelined by a sprained ankle but will be just a spectator in Tennessee.

“I’m actually not playing,” Hall said after Tuesday’s practice. “I’m just gonna be out there watching, just trying to coach our young guys up. It’s an exciting time to see those guys actually perform in a game-time situation. The thing we just want to stress to our guys, especially in the secondary, is just try to communicate and try to play every play like it’s their last.”

Left tackle Trent Williams, who has been practicing with a sprained left wrist, and safety Brandon Meriweather, who has had his participation in full team drills limited during training camp as he comes back from a knee injury, also could be strong candidates to sit out the preseason opener. Williams was noncommittal on the subject Tuesday.

“I don’t know,” Williams said. “You’ve got to ask Coach. … I am available if I am needed despite any injury.”
