RICHMOND – Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was not with the team on Tuesday because he had to attend the funeral of a close friend, a team source confirmed. Assistant head coach Bobby Turner was slated to run Tuesday afternoon’s practice session.
The way Shanahan generally structures practices, position coaches and coordinators oversee their group and unit’s practices, with the head coach roaming from area to area and occasionally interjecting or pulling a player aside to provide instruction.
Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan runs the offense during the game simulation portion of practices, with Mike Shanahan calling out the down and distance on plays to put the team in certain situations.
Turner, also the team’s running backs coach, will address the media following Tuesday’s practice.
