Left tackle Trent Williams and safety Brandon Meriweather are not expected to play in the Washington Redskinspreseason opener Thursday night in Tennessee, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Williams has been bothered lately by a sprained left wrist. He has continued practicing but has been noticeably limited by the injury.

Meriweather has had his practice work closely monitored in training camp as he returns from last season’s knee injury. He resumed participating in full team drills this week.
They’ll join quarterback Robert Griffin III and cornerback DeAngelo Hall in sitting out the game. Griffin is to be withheld from the entire preseason under Coach Mike Shanahan’s plan for easing him back toward full-time duties as Griffin returns from knee surgery in January.

Hall said Tuesday he won’t play against the Titans. He has missed practice time in training camp due to a sprained ankle.
