Donte Stallworth hopes to play Saturday

Wide receiver Donte Stallworth said he’s hopeful of playing in the Washington Redskins’ preseason game Saturday against the Buffalo Bills at FedEx Field.

Stallworth resumed practicing Wednesday after being sidelined by a strained hamstring muscle. He sat out Monday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“They [the team’s coaches] wanted to rest me last week to let me heal and strengthen the hammy some,” Stallworth said. “It’s feeling pretty good lately so I’m looking forward to going this week. I guess as of right now, I’ll be going, in my mind anyway.”

Stallworth said he was hopeful of doing more in Thursday’s practice than he did on Wednesday. He acknowledged the difficulty he faces in trying to make the team’s season-opening roster while nursing an injury.

“It’s tough because you only have so much time during the preseason with the way preseason is scheduled,” Stallworth said, “and especially toward the end of the preseason, which we are in now. … It’s very imperative for me personally that I can get back out there and not only perform well but be healthy performing well at the same time.”
