The team needed a roster spot for place kicker John Potter, who was signed Saturday and could fill in Sunday at Green Bay for the injured Kai Forbath.

It’s not clear yet if the Redskins will re-sign White next week, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. White first would have to clear waivers.

White made the Redskins’ roster as the fourth quarterback behind Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins and Rex Grossman. He was on the inactive list for Monday’s season opener. He last played in a regular season game for the Miami Dolphins in 2009.
