OAKLAND — The Washington Redskins utilized a no-huddle offensive approach effectively after falling behind the Oakland Raiders, 14-0, in the first quarter here Sunday.

The Redskins got moving on offense and, although that drive resulted in only a field goal early in the second quarter, it put them on their way to scoring 24 straight points and beating the Raiders, 24-14.

“It gives you a little spark,” Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III said. “I’ve run no-huddle a lot at all levels of football, high school and college and here. It was a spark for us. It caught them off guard. Our team did a good job executing it. It’s a curveball you can throw every now and then.”

The Redskins are not among the wave of NFL teams now using a hurry-up approach on offense on a regular basis. They didn’t use it extensively in the remainder of Sunday’s game. But it did help them to turn around Sunday’s game and keep their record from plummeting to 0-4.

“When nothing’s going your way, you’ve got to try something,” Griffin said. “We went to it and it worked. I think the guys responded to it well. It kind of tired their defense out a little bit and we were able to move the ball more consistently and convert third downs. So that was a good thing.”
