Recently-reinstated defensive end Jarvis Jenkins said he expects to be eased back into action Sunday, but he doesn’t know how much or little he will play when the Redskins face the Cowboys.

Jenkins is coming off a four-suspension for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy. He started the final 14 games of the 2012 season and would have entered this season as the starter at left defensive end had it not been for his suspension. Kedric Golston has started the first four games of the season at that spot.

A third-year pro, Jenkins spent training camp and the preseason with the team, but wasn’t permitted to practice or be on team property while serving his suspension. On Oct. 1, Jenkins went through his first practice following the suspension, and then the Redskins entered their five-day bye week getaway. He has practiced fully each day this week and believes he made progress each day.

“Obviously, beginning of the week, it was going kind of fast for me – just getting back into football shape,” Jenkins said. “My coach has said to me my main focus has to be remembering my stuff when I get tired.”

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said Friday that a decision had yet to be made on the roles of Jenkins and linebacker Rob Jackson (also coming off of suspension) for Sunday.

But Jenkins said that he gathered from talks with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett that he would play at least sparingly.

“Coach said he’s going to ease me into it to better me, to better the team,” Jenkins said. “He doesn’t want to just throw me in there, knowing these guys have four or five games under them. I had the preseason, but they’re going to ease me into it and see how I do throughout the flow of the game.”

Jackson wasn’t seen in the locker room during the afternoon media availability session, but he did practice fully each day this week.
