Defensive end Stephen Bowen said Wednesday he plans to try to play through his knee injury and remain in the Washington Redskins’ lineup.

“I’m aiming to play this week,” Bowen said at Redskins Park. “We’ve got to see how it goes. I think I’ll be fine. But that’s going based off how my left knee was two years ago. It’s starting to feel a lot better than it was on Monday.”

Bowen suffered a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Sunday’s victory over the Chicago Bears at FedEx Field. Bowen played with a torn PCL in his left knee two seasons ago. He called the severity of this injury and the discomfort level associated with it “very similar” to the previous injury.

“It’s sore,” Bowen said. “It hurts. But you’ve just got to suck it up, man. I’m just gonna try to do what I can today and hopefully it just feels better as the week goes on. …It’s just something you’ve got to deal with. It was a freak accident that happened to me in the game. Things happen like that in football.”

Bowen said he was hurt when his knee hit the ground after getting his feet tangled with Bears offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod. He said he intends to play Sunday in Denver if he feels able to do so and capable of contributing.

“I feel like we have a chance to still turn this season around,” Bowen said. “If I’m gonna be a guy that’s not gonna affect the game, I’m not gonna just force myself out there and hurt our team. If I feel I can go out there and help us win, I’m gonna be there.”
