Their long weekend complete, the Washington Redskins will get back to work today and begin preparation for next Sunday’s game at Philadelphia.
In that game, the Redskins will try to redeem themselves from a 33-27 season-opening loss to Philadelphia while also aiming to rebound from their most recent disappointment – last Thursday’s 34-27 defeat at Minnesota.
The Redskins led the Vikings by 13 points before collapsing and giving up 20 unanswered points to fall to 3-6.
“Definitely shocked,” quarterback Robert Griffin III said when asked about his team’s record. “But this is just a test that we’ve got to try to pass, and I’m dang sure set on making sure we pass it.”
This is Washington’s second consecutive 3-6 start to a season, but the problems are more abundant this year than last season when the team rebounded with a 7-0 finish to the season to win the NFC East and reach the playoffs.
Based on the remainder of the schedule, which includes games with San Francisco, Kansas City and four more divisional games, the Redskins appear to have a more challenging road ahead of them compared to last year’s stretch run. But Griffin said that said despite the frustrations and disappointments, he and his teammates still believe that they can turn their season around.
Asked why, Griffin said, “Just the way we played. We can score points, we can put points up, and our defense has played well, at times this year. So, we just need it all to come together, all to click for us. Only way to do that is to keep pushing forward. What’s a man to do when he comes to work every day and puts his all into it and sometimes comes up short? He still comes to work the next day, and we’ve got to do that.”
Despair hasn’t set in yet, Griffin added.
“Yeah, and guys will be mad, and obviously when you’re losing games, things will get magnified,” the quarterback said. “But for us, winning cures all, and I think everybody is buying in even though it is tough right now when we’re 3-6 to buy in. We’re all buying in to what our philosophy is.”
