The Washington Redskins have added running back Davin Meggett the practice squad, filling the void created when they promoted wide receiver Nick Williams to the 53-man roster.

Meggett is a Clinton, Md., native, and son of former pro running back Dave Meggett.

He went undrafted out of Maryland in 2012, and spent time on the practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, and Dallas Cowboys.

The Redskins promoted Williams from their practice squad to replace return man/running back Chris Thompson who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.

Thompson, a rookie out of Florida State, has been placed on injured reserve.

The 5-foot-9, 184 pound Williams, a Connecticut product, is expected to compete for time at punt returner.

What’s ahead:

● Washington practices Wednesday at 1 p.m. Mike Shanahan and Robert Griffin III are expected to talk to reporters after practice.
