Maurice Hurt practices, Carriker ‘still can’t go’

Offensive lineman Maurice Hurt took part in his first practice after spending the first 10 weeks of the season and all of training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and the Redskins now have 21 days to evaluate him before making a determination on his future.

Meanwhile, defensive end Adam Carriker remains unable to practice, and it remains unlikely that he will play this season.

Hurt had arthroscopic surgery on his knee this past offseason and wasn’t cleared to practice at the start of training camp. He remained on the PUP list at the start of the regular season, and the Redskins had until this week to clear him to practice. Hurt was eligible to begin practicing in Week 6, but the team elected to wait until this week to do so.

Shanahan said Hurt had good practice, but gave no indication that a decision on Hurt’s status was coming soon. The Redskins by the end of the 21-day window must decide whether to activate Hurt to the 53-man roster, place him on season-ending injured reserve, or to cut him.

Hurt, a third-year pro, has seen time at both guard and tackle for the Redskins, starting eight games at left guard as a rookie.

Meanwhile, Carriker, who tore his quadriceps tendon in Week 2 of the 2012 season and has since had three surgeries related to that injury, continues his rehab, but isn’t close to making a return. Shanahan said that there was “no update” on Carriker and that he “still can’t go.”
