Rookie tight end Jordan Reed said Thursday he expects to return to the Washington Redskins’ lineup for Sunday night’s game against the New York Giants at FedEx Field.
“Yeah, definitely,” Reed said. “I’m perfectly fine.”
Reed missed Monday night’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers after suffering a concussion during the Redskins’ previous game at Philadelphia. He remains subject to the NFL’s procedures for treating players who suffer concussions and must be cleared by an independent neurologist in order to practice and play. He participated in Thursday’s practice on a limited basis. It was the second straight day he was a limited practice participant.
“It was tough,” Reed said. “I want to be out there. But it happens in this sport. It’s something I’ve got to deal with.”
Reed said he suffered two concussions while in college at Florida. Both, he said, were more severe than this one. He said he “wasn’t close at all” to being cleared to play Monday night. His symptoms subsided Monday or Tuesday, he said.
Fullback Darrel Young and tight end Niles Paul remained out of practice Thursday. Young has a hamstring injury. Paul was not at Redskins Park and was home sick, according to Coach Mike Shanahan.
Young said he expects to practice Friday and if all goes well then, he would hope to play Sunday night.
