According to Shanahan, Reed was examined by a specialist who recommended that Reed not practice for at least three more weeks. Reed will be placed on the injured reserve list, Shanahan said.
Shanahan said he received the news Thursday afternoon about the specialist’s recommendation. Shanahan previously had left open the possibility of Reed playing again this season if he received medical clearance to do so.
Reed will end up missing the final six games of the Redskins’ season. He has missed four games since suffering a concussion during a Nov. 17 loss at Philadelphia. Reed, a third-round draft choice in April from Florida, finishes his rookie season with 45 catches for 499 yards and three touchdowns.
