The Washington Redskins announced that second-year running back Alfred Morris will play in the Pro Bowl.

Morris originally had been selected as an alternate. But either Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch or San Francisco’s a Frank Gore is assured of playing in the Super Bowl, opening the door for Morris to make his first Pro Bowl appearance.

Morris this season again ranked among the league’s rushing leaders, gaining 1,275 yards and seven touchdowns on 276 carries.

He will join teammate and left tackle Trent Williams in the Jan. 26 game in Hawaii.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
