The Washington Redskins have re-signed safety Jose Gumbs to a one-year deal, the player confirmed on Monday afternoon.

Gumbs was coming off of his first full season in the NFL appeared in eight games, starting one of them, and recorded six tackles and an interception. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound Monmouth product also contributed on special teams. He signed with Washington as a free agent in training camp.

His contract for 2014 is worth $495,000.

The Washington Times first reported news of Gumbs’ re-signing.

The Redskins are expected to make additional acquisitions at safety where veterans Brandon Meriweather and Reed Doughty both are set to become free agents.
