Looking to surround quarterback Robert Griffin III with more weapons, the Redskins have made inquiries on free agent wide receivers Andrew Hawkins and Kenny Britt, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.

Britt is a five-year veteran, who has spent all of his career with the Tennessee Titans. The 6-foot-3, 223-pounder recorded 700-yard seasons in each of his first two years in the league before battling injury and off-field issues over the course of the next three seasons. Last season, he had just 11 catches for 96 yards while appearing in 12 games.

Hawkins is a restricted free agent, who played for Jay Gruden in Cincinnati. The 5-7, 180-pound slot receiver is entering his fifth season in the NFL.

He too battled injury last season but recorded 12 catches for 199 yards in eight games. Hawkins had his best season in 2012, when he recorded 51 receptions for 533 yards and four touchdowns.

The Bengals tendered Hawkins a low-round tender worth $1.4 million. If the Redskins offered him a deal worth more than that, Cincinnati would have the right to match it. If the Bengals chose not to match an offer, Hawkins could depart without his new team having to give any compensation.

Pierre Garcon returns as Washington’s top receiver, but the Redskins seek additional threats with Josh Morgan and Santana Moss both free agents.
