The pre-draft process often involves a voracious fan appetite for getting to know who’s available when. Once your team has made its picks, then it’s time to turn that appetite towards getting to know the new players. Here’s something about each of them.
Second-round linebacker Trent Murphy got in trouble for being too rough with Andrew Luck
Dan Steinberg’s post about Murphy’s Dad, and Mark Bullock’s on how Washington might deploy him, are required reading. But past that, CBS DC’s Chris Lingebach writes that Jim Harbaugh nearly kicked Murphy off the Stanford team.
“Coach Harbaugh was pretty protective of Andrew Luck; knew what a talent he was and how important he was to the team,” Murphy recalled. “And I was a pretty aggressive pass rusher, and in high school we didn’t quite have the same rule that says stay away from the quarterback.”
“And so I would get a little too close, or a little too close to his follow through on his throwing hand,” he explained. “And so [Harbaugh] told me a couple times, if I get that close to him again, he was gonna send me on a bus ride, first ticket home, back to Arizona.
Third-round tackle Morgan Moses has a beard that tweets
I suppose could have written he looks cool in workout pants, as shown in the video below, but that would be weird. But maybe not as weird as the Twitter feed belonging to his beard, seen here on redskins.com. Here’s Virginia coach Mike London talking about Moses:
Third-round guard Spencer Long wants to be a surgeon, and has never lived in a big city:
From The Bottom Line show on Omaha.com:
It’s toward the end of the interview, and if you can’t get through eight minutes of chit-chat, here’s a shorter Long clip that points out how he was an all-American before he got hurt:
Fourth-round cornerback Bashaud Breeland has his own day
He also, as Mike Jones reported on draft day, has an 11-month-old daughter. But a lot of people have daughters. Not as many people have their own day in Allendale, S.C.:
Fifth-round wide receiver Ryan Grant accounted for 43.31% of his team’s receiving yards
According to this chart from Philly.com’s Jimmy Kempski, Grant was a bigger portion of his offense than all but four wide receivers drafted over the weekend. Maybe that means guys like Odell Beckham Jr. and Kelvin Benjamin were on better teams, but it also means Grant ain’t half bad.
Lache Seastrunk’s name is pronounced “Lake”
He’s also speedy and shifty and Jay Gruden is thrilled to have him:
Here are some highlights. Mute the sound if you or your boss are offended by rap lyrics you can’t play in front of your kids. Or even if you aren’t:
Seventh-round tight end Ted Bolser likes it when celebrities read mean tweets
He does if this is really his Vine account.
Seventh-round place kicker Zach Hocker made a YouTube highlight video at UW-Whitewater
The Perk is the home of the Division III national champions. Yeah, that’s probably only interesting to me, but the kicking skill might interest you. Here’s the link to video of Washington’s newest kicker in action.
Bonus: DeAngelo Hall considers DeSean Jackson the Redskins’ first-round pick
And Gruden doesn’t have Mike Shanahan’s iron fist.
