DeSean Jackson leaves practice with an ankle injury

August 6, 2014

RICHMOND – Wide receiver DeSean Jackson pulled up lame midway through a pass route during Wednesday morning’s practice and appeared to have suffered an injury to his left foot.

Because Wednesday’s practice took place a day before Washington’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots, the two teams operated at more of a walk-through pace.

Wide receivers jogged through routes and offensive and defensive linemen pulled up at the snap rather than engage in contact.

Jackson lined up opposite Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis and jogged through his route. The receiver made a cut to the inside but suddenly started hopping on his right foot and made his way to the sideline unable to put pressure on his left foot.

Jackson got checked by a trainer and then had his left foot/ankle area wrapped in ice. Jackson hobbled from the sideline to the trainers’ tent, walking slightly better, but didn’t promptly re-emerge. After roughly 10 minutes, Jackson emerged from the tent with ice removed and with his cleat back on but limped as he headed to the locker room.

More coming later when coach Jay Gruden addresses the media around 10:15 a.m.

Our reporters in Richmond will have more later, but here’s the initial reaction, via Twitter. Given that Pierre Garcon is nursing a hamstring injury, quarterback Robert Griffin III might be without his two top targets for the preseason opener on Thursday.
