Texans to start Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback

Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien announced that Ryan Fitzpatrick will start at quarterback for his team when they host the Redskins on Sunday.

Fitzpatrick appeared in three preseason games, but struggled mightily, completing only 58 percent of his passes while throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.

That, coupled with Fitzpatrick’s struggles last season when he threw 14 touchdown passes, 12 interceptions and got sacked 21 times, prompted the Texans to acquire Patriots backup Ryan Mallett. But because Mallett still must learn the system, O’Brien believes that Fitzpatrick still gives the team the best chance to win.

The Redskins don’t believe it matters which Ryan starts at quarterback for Houston.

“Man, I don’t care if they start Ryan Gosling. We’re preparing for the Texans,” safety Ryan Clark said, before stressing that the key is for he and his teammates to execute and carry out their game plan regardless of the quarterback.
