Tomorrow is April 20, or, if you’re inclined to use just numerals, 4/20. The Going Out Gurus found plenty of events that seem perfectly suited to this stoner holiday.
A new Bob Marley documentary, “ Marley ,” opens at E Street Cinema. Critic David Malitz gives it three-and-a-half stars, and you can read the review in tomorrow’s Weekend section.
Speaking of E Street, the downtown theater screens “ The Big Lebowski ” as the midnight movie on Friday.
“ Easy Rider ,” famous for the scenes showing Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper smoking actual marijuana around a campfire, plays at AFI in Silver Spring.
The Black Squirrel is among the bars tapping Waldo’s Special Ale, the Lagunitas double IPA named for the Waldos, who are credited with creating the term “420” in the early 1970s. (Other D.C. and Virginia bars who will get a rare keg include the Big Hunt, American Ice Company, Tuskie’s, Westover Market and Lyon Hall; there’s a full list on the local Lagunitas rep’s Twitter account.)
As always on April 20, the Squirrel plans to sell bottles of 420 Extra Pale Ale, an award-winning brew from Atlanta’s Sweetwater Brewing Company. (The name refers to a never-built interstate that was supposed to cut through Atlanta.)
Friday’s Bad Brains concert at the Howard Theatre is sold out, which could have been a real bummer, but the Howard came through and added a Saturday night show, and tickets are still available for that.
